we’ve taught girls to romanticise nearly everything a boy does. when i was younger i thought it was cute that boys chased the girl even after she said no. i loved it when after a girl moved away from a kiss, the guy would pull her back and force it on. i thought a guy saying ‘i won’t take a no for an answer’ was passionate and romantic. we’re literally always teaching girls to romanticise abusive traits.

There’s a lot of this in fanfic. Young girls have been so convinced that abuse is romantic that they’re writing it into their own fantasies. It even pops up when the character has never been abusive in canon. Abusive behavior is totally out of character, but the fanfic author writes it in because she doesn’t see abuse, she sees romance.

(I know all fanfic authors are not female, but the stuff I’ve read has mostly been written by girls and women.)

Walmart under fire for “Batman’s wife” t-shirt for girls.

If history has taught us anything, it is that humankind is doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. This is the only possible explanation for why DC and Marvel Comics keep producing such explicitly sexist merchandise aimed at their female fans.

This time around, it’s a DC Comics t-shirt with the slogan “Training to be Batman’s wife.” This shirt is sold in the Juniors section at Walmart, and is aimed at teens and preteens.

As many DC fans quickly pointed out, this shirt sends an incredibly sexist and demeaning message to young girls. It’s also bizarre, because when a 12-year-old wants to buy Batman merchandise, it’s generally not because she’s impressed by Bruce Wayne’s eligible bachelor status.

LOOK WHO MANAGED TO FINISH SOMETHING WITHOUT GETTING HURT.
Sometimes I felt like I could run, because my supremely taped back wasn’t hurting at all, but I made myself walk. My back hurt a little afterwards, but it feels fine now. I finally got to take my tape off.
The only thing that sucks is that I had to stand on the shuttle back to parking. The bus went around several hard turns, and my right thumb has been killing me since then. (This is the wrist I sprained on the thumb side. I’m right handed, and I’ve been trying not to use it much, but I had to hold on to the rail since I stood on the bus.)
I’m doing a 4-mile race next Sunday (also planning to walk), and this makes me feel SO MUCH BETTER about it.

I have so much anxiety about the 5k I’m doing tomorrow, even though I’m walking the entire thing. My physical therapist taped my back on Wednesday night to hopefully keep my SI joint in alignment. (Yeah I’ve been wearing like a mile of KT tape for three days, how fun.) It’s a lot of things making me nervous, not the least of which is that I have to do it by myself. A friend was going to do it with me, but apparently she never registered.
